Journalist Around the World Pt. 1

A pregnant woman in Afghanistan was able to return after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. Her story is interesting because she was forced to turn to the Taliban for help, and the Taliban decided to help her leave the country. A woman in an Islamic state can face many dangers, but the biggest danger for her was the lack of medical care in Afghanistan. However, despite the need for medical care they were denied entry into their homeland because of the current COVID-19 restrictions that New Zealand has placed. The current quarantine rules of New Zealand are "all arrivals in New Zealand have to stay for 10 days in managed Covid isolation, meaning tickets have to be rationed to ensure there is enough room to house people" (New Zealand Journalist Finally Returns Home From Afghanistan | Al Bawaba). There are special exemptions to these rules, but the New Zealand government refuse to allow the woman and her partner to enter despite global protest over their treatment. When the NZ government final caved in, they refuse to give their reason for not allowing the couple to enter. This raises a question of why they refused to allow the couple entry. A reasonable suspicion is that the lottery system of New Zealand is rigged for the wealthy, but there is no evidence for this theory. I think some COVID quarantine measures could be toned down, but many will disagree with this idea.
