Journalists Going into 2021

It is nothing new that fake news has always gone around making it difficult for true news to be acknowledged. Fighting misinformation is something that journalists have faced for years and continue to face today. In "Predictions for Journalism in 2021," journalists share a short statement about what they believe 2021 will bring. Shaydanay Urbani and Nancy Watzman define the root of the problem of misinformation coming from "local rumors, memes, and misleading photos." They both claim that "local collaboration is key" to keep the spread of fake news by the public avoiding resharing such information. Ariel Zirulnick addresses a much different issue in her prediction on conflicts local newsrooms will be facing. With the rise of technology, news have become more accessible affecting the number of subscribers that read their news. A decreasing number of subscriptions leads to less money for the news platforms, but Zirulnick notes a solution to the problem by stating, "underwriting, donations, and sponsorships" can make up for the lost money and expresses gratitude for those who will support them by commenting, "community thanks for becoming part of the solution."
