Herbert Block, also known as Herblock, was unlike most journalists he didn't write his stories, he drew them. In the 20th century he was best known and admired by his political cartoons.
Herblock first worked for the Chicago Daily news and then later The Washington Post. His cartoons addressed political matters such as, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and so much more. Because of the success of his cartoons Herblock won numerous awards, such as American Newspaper Guild Award and the Heywood Broun Award, just to name a few.
For 72 years Herblock drew political cartoons, fighting for civil liberties. A number of editors tried to influence or alter his drawing but were unsuccessful.
Herbert Block died in 2001 at the age of 91, but because how much influence his cartoons had in the 1900s, he and his cartoons are well known to this day.
