Journalists in the Wild: Pavel Sheremet

Pavel Sheremet was a Russian journalist who unfortunately died from a bomb planted in his car.

During his career in journalism Sheremet was known for questioning authorities and supporting people, made him a target for death threats. Sheremet worked as a news anchor for multiple different news shows until the company was banned, or he was fired for advocating against the Russian government. Even after he lost his journalistic accreditation and many other jobs in Russia, he still fought for his voice to be heard by creating a blog that contained his analyses and interviews with political figures in Ukraine. Sheremet even worked as an anchor on Ukrainian shows, exposing the corruption schemes of Ukrainian oligarchs.

After Sheremet passed away in 2016, to honor his legacy, the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum created the Sheremet Prize for contribution to media freedom.
