Journalists Who Risk Their Lives During Wartime

On the 28th of February 2022 a team of journalists from Sky News were on the ground reporting in Ukraine as the Russian invasion was well under way. The team was driving around the outskirts of the Capitol of Ukraine Kyiv, when they were ambushed as they were making their way down a war torn stretch of highway. Heavy fire began to rain down on the small compact car they were using to get around. The team panicked and opened their doors screaming in English and in Russian that they were journalists and from the press. Their cries did not slow the attackers and on every movement they made, more bullets penetrated their vehicle. They waited until there was a moment of ceasefire to run to a stairwell leading them off the bridge. The team ultimately found themselves in a mechanic shop off the highway where many hours later, they would be rescued by local police. Even after reaching the mechanic shop the team was not convinced that they were safe, as this quote from chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay, "We ran inside and gathered together, while Martin and Dominique rang through to Sky staff members, signaling the start of a frantic effort to try to start to arrange a rescue for us."

Miraculously the team made it out alive with only one of the journalists being wounded in the attack. They would later find out that it was a Russian reconnaissance squad that had attacked them as they had many other innocent civilians in similar ambush style attacks. What is even more incredible about this story was that it was all caught on camera. You can read the article on this harrowing event by the teams chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay.
