Upon recent watch of Sacha Baron-Cohen's chaotic movies Borat and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, I was compelled by the unpredictable themes of journalism media these films. Baron-Cohen plays an unintelligent, sexist TV journalist from Kazakhstan with the goal of documenting "the great nation of America," but instead, he offends just about everyone he interviews. These movies have landed Sacha Baron-Cohen in a land of lawsuits and backlash by public media calling his activities in the movies unethical. Through further research of the movies, I've learned a deeper meaning of the controversial mockumentary. Npr.org declares"The 2006 film Borat aimed to expose American bigotry, xenophobia and sexism as the title character's unwitting scene partners reveal their true beliefs." Ethics is one of the cornerstones of journalism, the foundation principle of a journalist is to seek truth and report it. Sacha Baron-Cohen has no doubt on the morality of these films, stating "Is the movie as a whole ethical? Yes. We did it because there was a deeply unethical government in power."
