Recently trouble has been brewing between Russia and Ukraine, causing an immense amount of tension. In the Gazette they captured a ceremony being held by Ukraine to celebrate a day of unity. You can see the seriousness of the war that may soon come; however, you can see the happiness in their faces, the happiness of being able to have a moment of peace. The journalist writes "western officials warned a Russian Invasion could happen soon." This shows the hostility between the two and the dangers that the Ukrainians are up against while trying to live in a moment of unity. However, in local news, The Durango Herald reaches their audience by appealing more to the happier, warm, and refreshing style of news. Christian Burney writes "wolf howls were resounding through the halls". An elementary school recently began hosting an after-school science program. In this article, the Herald uses a large image showing a presentation of a wolf's pelt given in a classroom. Giving a happy, safe, educational feeling to the story. News is given to us in many ways but at the end of the day, happy news seems to capture the reader's appeal.
