Misinformation v Disinformation

People need to have ways to sift through all the information they see in the news and decipher what is true and what is not. There are things that we can classify as misinformation and then there are things that we can classify as disinformation. While they both involve information that is not completely true, they have a major difference. Misinformation is wrong information that is a mistake where “the intent is not to deceive”. Disinformation on the other hand is deliberate and the intent is “to influence public opinion or obscure the truth”. Unfortunately, even though misinformation is not intentional, it is still incorrect news so a person needs to be able to pick through all that information.
