While scrolling through the “Predictions of Journalism 2022,” a questionnaire produced every year by NiemanLab asks the most brilliant minds in journalism what they think the future holds or what needs to be worked on in the upcoming year.
An alarming number of concerns were related to journalism within the community. Alice Antheaume, for example, said, “We remember the importance of face-to-face reporting,” and Francesco Zaffarano noted, “Data’s not enough: It’s time to meet with your community.” If journalists aren’t within their community to get their information, how can they fabricate media reports? Reporting the instances within a journalist’s community, they can see the effects on the people and produce their factual findings from trustworthy sources and the concerns of the community, allowing the journalist to create an accurate media report.
