There is an abundance of different social media sites that regularly distribute news to their viewers. Ranging from many different topics like Presidential elections, COVID-19 pandemic, or even the marital status of celebrities. Elisa Shearer and Amy Mitchell, authors of the article "News Use Across Social Media Platforms in 2020 | Pew Research Center", broke down into statistics the most used social media sites that, on average, Americans tend to turn to for their daily news. According to Shearer and Mitchell "Facebook sits at the top, with about a third (36%) of Americans getting news there regularly. YouTube comes next, with 23% of U.S. adults regularly getting news there. Twitter serves as a regular news source for 15% of U.S. adults." Facebook has been known to use algorithms based off searches or interests, and provide news based of the calculations. Many social media platforms try to pique interest from viewers by connecting to the individuals' feelings/ emotions.
