The newspaper's front page is the most important page of a newspaper as it has to convince a passerby that it is worthy of reading instantly. Consequently, there is a lot of rhetoric to be found on the front page of newspapers. What I found similar in all newspaper front pages is the attention to text and image size. The bigger text and images are quickly eye-catching.
However, I also find one key difference in the front page format of two newspaper sources. The front page of a newspaper called "The Sentinel-Record" formats their stories from top to bottom. This is something I rarely see on the front page of newspapers. Most other newspapers like the "Dothan Eagle" format their front page by the size of their text and images and frame some of their stories to the side. For example, because of the huge image on the first page of the "Dothan Eagle" newspaper, I quickly became intrigued by what it means. This is an example of image rhetoric since the image and image size gravitated me to the story. Equally, the text that follows the image, "Some states seeking to protect election officials," has a similar purpose of grabbing my attention based on its text size.
Personally, I felt less inclined to read newspapers with their stories formatted top to bottom. These newspapers made me feel slightly more constrained to the order I should be reading the news stories. Also, there is not much eye-catching of a front page where all the text and images are the same/similar size. In contrast, I felt more inclined to read the newspapers with some stories appearing at the side and with some images and text being bigger than others, which I believe may be intentional.
