The movie All The President’s Men was a film made in 1976 introducing two reporters from the Washington Post who investigated the Watergate scandal and risked their safety and well being in order to achieve a catchy and successful story. As the two reporters, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, were on their journey to understand the Watergate scandal further, there were a few instances that stood out to me that continue to happen to this day. The two men did anything that they had to in order to obtain as much information as they could so just like today’s reporters, they would go to the place where it all started to get first hand information. Doors were slammed in their face, and phones were hung up on them. The more information they were given, the closer they got to the mystery and that is when Bernstein warns Woodward that he needs to “get out [his] notebook… [because his] life is in danger”. The true danger and torment these two reporters went through in order to chase the money and publish such a successful story shows the genuine passion journalists have in their career. Fortunately, today’s reporters have the internet on their side and are able to take things in a more safe approach. But when money is on the line, dedication and perseverance gets the job done.
