Social media has increasingly become a part of daily life. It's used for anything from keeping in touch with friends to keeping up with current events. Social media is rapidly becoming a news source, with many social media sites being where stories first break. In an article titled “How Harmful Is Social Media?” written by Gideon Lewis-Kraus, Lewis-Kraus explores the effects social media has on modern news media. The article states that the rise in social media use has “unwittingly dissolved the mortar of trust, belief in institutions, and shared stories that had held a large and diverse secular democracy together.” While social media's role in expanding the reach of news is good, it's important to take news found on social media with a grain of salt.
