Social Media: Gift Or Curse?

Something that has once started out somewhat innocent and sweet has turned impure and tart. Everything, as you may know, has its heyday. No matter what everything might be. Social media isn't something that just started and took off. No, Social media was actually created in 1997. The very first site to be launched in the social media era was a website called "SixDegrees.com". According to Hootsuite.com, the site originally amassed around one million users before it was bought for $125 million and shuttered in 2000. Social media is good for the business and connection aspect of it, but why do we feel the need to share what's going on in our life? People have felt the need to be loved by their peers. Let's be honest, Instagram nowadays is really a popularity contest. People post to get liked and show how many likes or comments they get. Social media wasn't intended for that. It was intended for us to have business connections and make new friends possibly. It was our selfish and greedy ways that have made social media into the monster that it is today. Everyone just envies one another. Reportedly teenagers who spend their time on social media have higher rates of depression and suicide attempts. How could that be a gift to the world? Maybe Social media was created to be meant as a gift but over time with the help of human greed, it has turned into a curse. Some might disagree with me on this and that is completely okay.
