Tech for Truth

“For decades now, criminals and powerful politicians have been using the offshore financial system and hiding details from the public,” Fitzgibbon said. “And it’s now up to journalists to catch up and to collaborate…As many people smarter than me say, you know, if money and criminality know no boundaries, then why should journalism?”

A powerful quote written in Raney Aronson-Rath's predictions for journalism in 2022 called for journalists to start using technology to their advantage to keep accountability. In our ever-changing timeline, technology is becoming smarter and more accessible, so why not use that as a tool to keep media stories straight? No matter where in the world, journalists can share information amongst themselves, across platforms, to help keep the facts alive.

In Aronson-Rath's article, she used The Pegasus Project as an example of how journalists collaborated in sharing information with the public. The Pegasus Project is tech that was created to be a hacking tool and sold to the Israeli government to spy on journalists and human-rights activists.

"It’s on journalists to use technology to help ensure that our reporting reaches the people to whom it will matter most." (Aronson-Rath)
