As the corona virus continued to affect everyone all around the world, Tara Parker-Pope wanted to explore mental health effects of Covid-19 through mental health professionals during the pandemic. The New York Times’s Well columnist brings the idea to the rest of her team, and they introduce a survey to various mental health professionals. After about two months since the project started, the finalized survey was complete, thanks to the feed
back from members of psychology community. The team also commissioned Monica Cordero Sancho, a data reporter, to analyze their results a week after the survey closed.
Well’s editor, Ms. Caron, claims that she wasn’t really surprised at the results when the surveys expressed that the number of clients seeking therapy were increasing at a great rate. After reading the responses to the survey’s open-ended questions, Ms. Parker-Pope claimed, “many therapists said that the stigma around therapy has really been reduced. That older people, people of color, younger people, conservatives, liberals – people from all walks of life – are seeking therapy, and they’re less afraid to seek therapy because everybody is struggling.”
