Journalists are responsible for getting information to the public. Whether they report on big or small stories, all journalists bring news to individuals in a way that is understandable. However, being a journalist has its downfalls. In Predictions for Journalism 2020, Rachel Glickhouse writes about the challenges journalists are faced with. Glickhouse argues that although "more attention has been paid to keeping companies alive" barely any attention is on "the fate of individuals losing their jobs." Thousands of journalists have faced losing their jobs, and several others have had to look for jobs outside of the media to support themselves. In 2019, "8,000 media jobs were lost." Some journalists are forced to work freelance or part-time just to begin their journey in the media. Even then, job security as a journalist is not always promised. Glickhouse shared that she did not expect these challenges to cease in the upcoming years, but they will make it harder for new opportunities.
