Social media has become the most dominant forum for news distribution. Pewresearch.org states that “a little under half (48%) of U.S. adults say they get their news from social media often.” More specifically, Facebook has the most influential impact, as “nearly a third of Americans Regularly get news on Facebook.” This is because, in 2019, Facebook created its own section for finding general, topical, diverse, and local news inside its main mobile app. Despite repetitive issues of fake news on Facebook, their promise is a dedicated place for users to gather insight from real journalists and reliable publishers.
Can Facebook truly deliver after previous events? Developers of Facebook news claim their essential goal is to support and help new “forms of journalism in the digital age, including individual, independent journalism, flourish.”
