History was made on Sunday night when Troy Kotsur won three Oscars: best supporting actor, best adapted screenplay, and best picture.
The movie "CODA" took home the prize for best picture and many other awards at the Oscars Sunday night. A huge win for the Deaf Community.
"Kotsur made history as only the second deaf actor to win the golden statue, and the first deaf male to do so, 35 years after Marlee Matlin and fellow “CODA” costar won the Oscar for best actress. " - The Daily Moth
NPR spotlights what a great honour this is for the Deaf community. It was also historic in authentic deaf representation with three deaf actors on the screen. This achievement is important rhetoric because it is showcasing that being Deaf doesn't mean being unable.
"This is dedicated to the Deaf community, the CODA community, and the disabled community," Kotsur signed in his acceptance speech. "This is our moment."
