Most people in the world view their news from some sort of media on their phone. Social media has dominated the world of news broadcasting and has had an effect on all of us. Two of the most popular social media outlets to view news are Twitter and Snapchat. They are some of the most downloaded and viewed forms of media to this date. They not only share national news in a productive way, but they also share it in a strategic manner.
Twitter is a very popular form of social media to view news. The app is even made in a way that they have a news icon to view the latest information. Also, just from what you have viewed and liked, the app filters out which trending topics and news you would be most interested in and posts it on your page. They use very catchy key words for the trending topics. For example, using very popular celebrity names or dramatic words that instill fear that will make you click on it. This has benefitted not only the app but also the public because it has caused them to look at news that they may have not viewed before.
Snapchat is also one of the most downloaded apps ever made. It is used in every age range but primary in teens. And teens are the most easily swayed and influenced when it comes to social media. Cornell researchers have look how how the ,"app changes the way users interact with each other and self disclose information." Snapchat does not have the same layout with news as twitter does. Snapchat uses photos with headlines to grab the persons attention. A person would scroll and see a dramatic photo of a celebrity with a dramatic headline saying, "She's Pregnant with who's baby?!?" That would instantly grab a persons attention and make them want to know more. Snapchat does not post the most reliable information but it gets the app views and shares with the information it posts.
Both of these apps share news to its viewers, but they both have different motives for it. Twitter is the more reliable form of news because it has verified news outlets that post from it with national breaking news. While snapchat posts more of the superficial shocking Hollywood news. Twitter and Snapchat tend to have a different age range of viewers and they work that to their advantage.
