I have written three blog posts about what fake news is, how to spot it, and the different types of fake news. By now, we know all of this, but what do we do about it? How can we realistically use this information to help us spot fake news in our daily life?
Claire Wardle from First Draft News says this:
We all play a crucial part in this ecosystem. Every time we passively accept information without double-checking, or share a post, image or video before we’ve verified it, we’re adding to the noise and confusion. The ecosystem is now so polluted, we have to take responsibility for independently checking what we see online.
Instead of blindly believing things we see and share online, we need to be alert to the threat of misinformation. Even if done accidentally, fake news can be very harmful. It is better to not post than to post something false on accident.
