As of today, February 18th, at 3:00 pm, the sign above the Highway 75 going to exit 38C, Sam Rayburn Tollway, collapsed onto the road. Luckily, there were no injuries and the sign was moved out of the way, all but the north lane was blocked off. As stated in newsbreak, "Allen Police and TxDOT said it’s not yet clear how this happened" (CNN). They are checking the other nearby signs to prevent this from happening again.
While this is the most interesting and recent event to happen in Allen, more often than not the only news that is reported in this community is about vehicle crashes, the famous Allen High School, but not much more than that. Of course, occasionally there is more going on, such as 3 years ago there was a school shooting threat on Allen High School, though rarely is there noteworthy news. I asked a friend from school how they felt about the lack of many newsworthy things, and she said, "I'm actually pretty relieved, it makes me feel like I live in a safe community." So, while Allen Texas may not be very exciting, it is a very safe place to live.
