Journalism as a whole has been under fire throughout most of 2020. While the role of a journalist is to get the true news to the public, there are always those who bend the rules. The year 2020 was one that was characterized by distinct and impactful and it touched every human in the world. Nassim Nicholas Taleb describes it best as a black swan namely stating "...its an outlier," "it carries extreme impact," and "[humans have made] explanation for it after the face [to] making it explainable and predictable." Taleb sees 2020 as a magnificent and impactful year that stands out as a unique year in comparison to all others. On the contrary, journalist An Xiao Mina argued in the article 2020 Isn't a Black Swan - It's a Canary that this is a harmful take on the year 2020. Instead, Mina argues that 2020 is a warning sign. "It's our canary," she says. She emphasizes the implications of the suffering that we have endured in 2020 should be seen as a warning of what could be to come. From the climate crisis to political polarity, she sees the world as a turning point for the world.
