It seemed that the rhetorical strategies used in both false claims were based on playing off the emotions of readers. It seemed that both publications that were making false claims were trying to get a reaction, so that the article would be read. This strategy works, and it led to untrue information being widespread. It also leads to more political tension between conservatives and liberals. I wanted to try to see if I could find a journalist who was doing something cool and actually contributing correct information to the news world. I found Louis Theroux. He is a British journalist and filmmaker. What is really interesting about him is that he interviews people that we don’t normally hear from. According to a quick summary I found on him from nyfa.edu, “the famously unassuming reporter is known for his ability to get his subjects – most of whom live extremely exclusive lives – to open up easily with the persona of merely a dispassionate observer”. He seems like a pretty open-minded person and is never judgmental to any of his subjects. He was even respectful when talking to a racist. It is nice to see journalists out there who are reporting to uncover truth as opposed to reporting to bury it. [1 image, 1 quote, 2 links, 208 words]
