Taylor Lorenz has caught the eye of many young people across the country with her stories. She writes “about technology, memes, influencers, and online culture.” and her headlines vary from How to text a celebrity to Cult followings on TikTok. What I find interesting is when she reports, she often finds trends and cultural change before they become widely known and trend on Twitter.
Most of Lorenz’s stories start on Twitter where she verifies trends with her following while writing them and includes many of the replies to her Tweets throughout her article on the NY Times, this makes her a character that you want to contribute where she might give you the chance to be published in one of her articles.
Her images are also another variable that often makes her most successful, he often just uses screenshots from her phone, closing the gap between the perspective of her and her audience. Her audience feels that she sees what they see and it makes an incredible connection with the readers.
I think Taylor has an amazing perspective and she opens the door to the world of Gen Z that few reports on. I think she has huge potential and her use of rhetorical strategies are unique but crafted for her young audience.
