A Sea of Lies

According to London-based media consultant Peter Bale, "Truth will be the big casualty of 2020." When asked about the future of journalism, his prediction is not very hopeful. Bale does not believe that "journalism is faring well against the tidal wave of misinformation." With the news being so influenced by political agendas and opinions, the facts seem to be drowned out by rhetoric. Distinguishing the truth from the lies is now a chore burdened on the consumers. With that said, it is not difficult to see his perspective and to realize that journalism is in danger. Even a professional like Bale could not come up with much of a solution to this problem other than to redouble “efforts on core news reporting and working much harder to distinguish news from opinion.”
