A Struggle between Business and COVID-19

Through the growing numbers of COVID-19 cases, the biggest losers and suffers are the business owners. As many know, America is fueled by the service industry and a large part of that is the food industry. This food industry nationwide has seen a dramatic drop in sales and income as the amount of people going to bars and restaurants decreases due to fear of COVID-19 and all the baggage that this fear has. Through a local new source in McKinney, this issue is addressed by the McKinney Mayor, George Fuller. He asserts that he doesn’t “‘want to have more businesses closed down”’ and that the “‘easy scapegoat to go after… [is] the bars and the restaurant’”(Jaime) This monetary decline in income allow the author of this paper to highlight the care Mayor Fuller has on the city of McKinney and his fellow food industry workers. The tone that is expressed in this paper is one that shows sympathy and information, which allows the people of McKinney to understand their situation and the frustration of the Mayor.
