A Thought About Journalism

Journalism: A Very Short Introduction by Ian Hargreaves is a quick read that briefly describes an overview of journalism including some short stories and examples. While reading, I found my attention caught by Hargreaves' personal definition of journalism. "Journalism’s job is to provide the information and argument that enable societies to establish facts, to work through disagreements, to test moral boundaries, and to know their priorities," Hargreaves states. I liked this definition because from my own perspective, I think, at it's core, journalism's main responsibility is simply to supply facts and stimulate conversations. This can be done through newspapers, books, movies, and more; the media isn't as important as the actual information being dispersed in my opinion. Though, I would support the notion that the media is important when trying to reach a certain audience.
