An Experiment on Slowing Down False Information

Misinformation can be spread fast and easily through the use of social media. In an attempt to find a solution to stop the spread of misinformation, the article, Local collaboration is key to slowing misinformation, try out a "local news organizations, with the goal of monitoring online misinformation and supporting local experiments in news collaboration.". They did this because they found that "the most damaging misinformation narratives started as local rumors, memes, and misleading photos — repackaged and reshared across the country,”. This innovative way of stopping misinformation did come with results as it allowed a fast response to "reports on Covid-19 conspiracies to toolkits for reporters covering misinformation," in the state where the experiment was taking place. It is a tedious and challenging thing to do, but it could be a new way of disrupting the flow of false information.
