“We compete with not only other similar news media but every kind of frictionless and dynamically adaptive content experience that users get from all the other content apps on their phones.” Renee Kaplan.
Media consumers are getting more and more specific with their needs for consumption so journalists have to adapt their display of content to fit them. They have to determine what format, whether visuals or audios are necessary, when information should be pushed out, and how often, in order to keep their audiences engaged. In addition to calculating their audience’s current preferences, they have to anticipate how those needs will change over time to prepare for future projects and content they will have to put out. Journalists are not only trying to attract attention away from other news outlets, but also the several other forms of social media or even entertainment in order to be successful.
