Are The Rolling Power Outages Fair?

awood3397

Texas has had a rough couple of days due to a huge shock of a snow fall at the beginning of this week. An extreme energy demand and overload of frozen utility plants caused Texans to experience rolling blackouts. This has "left millions of people in the dark and bitter cold" without any preparation of this event (Miller 1). After hearing about these blackouts I was confused due to my house not experiencing this and decided to ask some of my peers. My friend Claire explained that "the power was only on for 30 minutes and then out for almost an hour" which did not sound too bad until she said that the "house was only 50 degrees inside". To people that have lived in Texas their whole life this is crazy, this has never happened before. Based on what electric grid you live in, it is determined how your blackouts are distributed. But for people like me who have had power this whole time, it seems unfair that one could be freezing and another completely unaware of how it feels to have power for only 30 minutes at a time.
