Severe weather that took all of Texas by surprise has created a toll in our great state. Panic buying Texans are stocking up on food, supplies, and heaters due to the unpredictable and unreliable power grid system in our state. As of February 20, 2021, millions are still without power and water due to the unsurmountable demand. President Biden has recently declared a state of emergency to Texas and has provided financial aid to businesses and citizens of this state. He was supposed to travel to Texas to assess the damage but states, "I don’t want to be a burden. When the president lands in a city in America it has a long tail.” This is in response to the criticism he has received by using this event as a photo op. President Biden will visit after this crisis is over. I asked around my neighborhood Mckinney Target to see how many people were out of power and how they felt about President Biden's response of waiting. I asked 15 shoppers what they thought. 10 of them have been out of power since February 15, 2021 and 5 had power and running water. Of the 10 that were out of power 6 of the shoppers were staying in hotels and 4 stayed huddled up near the fireplace. In regards to President Biden not visiting after the winter snowstorm, 14 out of the 15 agreed that it is the best thing to do. One man in particular Dennis Hoffman, believes that Biden should have flew right away. He states, "It is the presidential thing to do as the leader of our country, no one's gonna care if this is a photo-op. What we need is leadership and hope." Dennis has been out of power since February 15.
