With the rise of social media and news, in what ways are the news being presented that captivate the audience? For one, the news is presented in big headlines that highlight the core of the issue. Headlines that are short and filled with drama get the most attention from the readers. Think about it, would you rather click in an article that headlined, “ Ariana grande’s dm’s leaked!!! She calls her interaction with Selena Gomez back in 2016 fake and forced!” or something that says, “ Ariana grande throws shade at Selena Gomez.” if I were you I would easily pick the first one. The headline is presented in a way that makes me feel that the article has a lot more story to tell with more sources and receipts. The way headlines are constructed makes the crowd gravitate towards them and click on them. News media are structured through logic and calculated reason. “The media logic literature suggests that the news values and storytelling techniques of journalists are shaped by their medium, format, and competition with other media,” says an article on the study of news platforms. A news platform has to stand out from the competition, it has to have bits of information that the other doesn’t. The presentation of the news had to please the consumer, “in order to fit in and improve the reach and virality of their news content,” and to also keep their consumers coming back for more information because they trust them. The way platforms are structured plays a big role in whether it captures people’s attention or not, and in result, improve the credibility and popularity of their platform.
