When it comes to social media, it feels very repetitive. You see the posts of the people who you follow, as it's constantly updated with newer content. It’s a place where anyone can post whatever they want (obviously within limits), and can create a digital footprint for themselves.
However, one of the newest forms of social media is this random app called “Tik Tok”. This app allows for 15 to 60 second long videos of whatever you choose, and it's very different than most social media. Tik Tok allows for a more even platform, with giving anyone on the app the opportunity to create content and have the opportunity to “go viral” from doing whatever you choose, whether that is dancing, singing, skits, commentary, or whatever. Because of this, their user population grew very quickly, and is continuing to do so, and this social media site isn’t going away anytime soon.
When the app first started getting popular, I can easily say that I hopped on the trend to get the app, and quickly became obsessed, however my boyfriend, Zach Bishop, was reluctant to get the app because it was stupid and a waste of time. However, just a few months later, without the force of any person, he converted to the “dark side” and downloaded the app, now addicted to the app that many kids, teens, and young adults love too.
“Tik tok is an app that is just fun to be on. There’s not really a point to it other than entertainment, but it gives people a place to just have fun” said Bishop.
Other sites don’t give equal opportunity for the chances to go viral, especially sources like instagram, so it is really neat to see a platform that doesn’t have a particular algorithm, that gives everyone their fair shot.
