Searching for the Truth

Over the past few years, journalistic integrity has changed. What I mean by this is that people now have the burden to determine what is reliable and trustworthy information rather than the reporters themself. I don't necessarily believe reporters are lying, but sometimes their information can be misleading and used to make people believe something that may not be true.

This phenomenon is often referred to as "fake news." Fake news is defined by Nolan Higdon as "false or misleading content presented as news and communicated in formats spanning spoken, written, printed, electronic, and digital communication." Social media is a large part of the fake news problem. Users can make statements without being checked for accuracy. It is very common for a user to make a crazy statement that gets the attention of lots of people. The public should always check for multiple reliable sources in order to not be deceived.
