Big Tech Censorship

In the United States, Big Tech corporations have many times been brought into court for censorship. People want there freedom of speech online to express there opinions. The cases in the United States usually are dismissed and it allows companies like Twitter, Facebook, Google, and more, all to grow in power. But could a recent event put a stop to this? Although these companies are all based out of California, they serve people all over the world. Just this week Poland and Hungry are trying to put in place laws to fine these types of companies for constricting freedom of speech online. A quote from the IB Times Polish Justice Minister Sebastian Kaleta says it sets a dangerous precedent. "It's very disturbing because if Big Tech sees themselves as an organization empowered enough to ban a sitting president of the U.S., it sends a message to the world --that we can ban anyone, whenever we want." He also adds, "Freedom of speech is not something that anonymous moderators working for private companies should decide. Instead, that is for the national body; duly elected officials." Judit Varga the Hungarian Justice Minister, said the government "will propose a law to the Parliament this spring" aimed at curbing the power of Big Tech." Now since more countries are joining the fight against censorship and journalist around the world are writing about it, possibly big tech corporations could change there ways.
