Pablo Uchoa in a BBC article titled “Brazil coronavirus: 'Our biggest problem is fake news'” says that “Brazil now has the third highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world - around a quarter of a million”. However, as they go on to explain the article, a large part of the population and more specifically those that support the current Brazilian president “have tried to play down the seriousness of the disease”. In the article, Uchoa includes several first-hand accounts from frustrated nurses and doctors. The issue, as explained in the article, is that several people believe that COVID 19 is nothing more than fake news. The article even cites that in March, Twitter and Facebook deleted posts made by the Brazilian president after identifying them as being fake news. As cases of COVID 19 continue to rise in Brazil, only time will tell how many more cases appear before more people believe the reality of the disease.
