Bursting the Bubble

rvalenta

Journalism is shifting. Not only has it transitioned how the community receives the information, but it’s changing how it is being conveyed. People are becoming less and less trusting of the news they hear, leading to an increase of ignorance towards others beliefs and opinions. This causes individuals to form their own bubbles of news, reluctant to the potential of other “bubbles” that journalism used to provide. Instead, “journalism is stuck in it’s own bubble” according to Jim Brady, CEO of Spirited Media. There is not one specific cause of this, though. Brady connects the situation to be caused by the distrust of the consumers, outdated strategies, poor communication, social media, and even pride. With revisiting each of these causes, a much needed journalistic reform could potentially gain back the trust and momentum journalists once had on society.
