Cancellation of SAT/ACT

With state standardized testings being cancelled due to the Coronavirus, a record number of colleges have decided that applicants do not need test scores for admission. This means it is possible to get into many colleges, even some ivy leagues, without taking your SAT or ACT. This decision brings many pros as well as cons. Students with test anxiety have feared the SAT since they first heard of it, it seems that your whole future is dependent on whether you do good on one test. The cancellation of these let grades speak for themselves, despite doing bad on one test. A con about this is if there is only 1 spot left and it comes down to 2 applicants and only 1 of them has taken the SAT or ACT, it is most likely that they will receive the last spot. This leaves students who were physically not able to take the test in the dust over something that was out of their reach. This also has a con for colleges in the way that they will lose some of their credibility. As much as students dislike taking these standardized tests, they are very important, and applying for college without having them on your application could be a lost opportunity.
