Catch Me If You Can

Sarah Marshall wrote a piece about readers' receptiveness to different types of news articles throughout the day. In other words, journalists must understand and work with proper "news moments". Mornings are usually a moment of updates and to stay informed, midday until early evening is when people are utilizing time-fillers and simply want a distraction, and evening is a time for relaxation with mindless information.

There is also the intercepted news moments, usually sent by a friend or family member at unexpected moments. These must be concise and factual to get the reader to stop what they are doing and pay attention. “Our job as audience editors is to get stories in front of more readers”, Marshall says. With this knowledge of readers’ habits, journalists are much more likely to accomplish that goal.
