The scary thing about news and media these days is that it is leaving the voice and work of journalism behind, in the dust. The sad truth is that journalism isn’t what it used to be and many times falter to the backseats of large corporations; oftentimes they don’t gain enough revenue to achieve real independence in the business world. Yet there is always hope, but at a cost. According to Nathalie Malinarich, an editor of BBC news, with “ subscriptions, membership programs, or signed-in users, we’ll see more publishers focusing on building a better, more direct, relationship with their audiences.” This is to say that the hope journalism has is dependent on the users willing to financially help them, without the middleman known as Apple or Google. All things considered, this doesn’t seem to help in my opinion due to the low cost or free news these big companies provide to the audience, but we will tell with time where this idea of loyalty will take the world of journalism.
