Christiane Amanpour is a CNN journalist heavily invested in the Bosnian war reporting in 1995. As I researched the importance of this genocide, I discovered that this report is said to be one of her most invested stories, making it more intriguing to read. The war started due to the Serbs wanting to take back areas that the United Nations had previously protected. It was reported that "more than 7,000 men and boys were slaughtered simply for being Muslim – part of the approximately 100,000 who would be killed during the war, the majority of them Muslim" (Amanpour 1).
Reflecting on her findings, Amanpour expressed that "Bosnia is where I found my voice. As a person who had been taught the values of freedom, democracy, human rights, religious and ethnic tolerance – to see all that under mortal threat in Bosnia – Sarajevo, Srebrenica and all the other villages, towns and cities – was formative. I resolved to do what I could to fight it – through my words, our pictures and our huge and powerful platform" (1). Still furious that no one was standing up to the Bosnian war bully, the Serbs, Amanpour confronted President Bill Clinton asking why there was no action. She had made him angry with such a front-forward question, but in the end, she did what she thought was right for society.
