Covid-19 effects on Tourism

Around the world journalist are talking about how Covid-19 has severely impacted the tourism. Some countries or cities rely heavily upon tourist income to survive. The Japan Times talks about how, "Kyoto has developed a love-hate relationship with tourists: It is one of the most popular cities to visit in Japan besides Tokyo, recording 8.31 million overseas visitors in 2019." They also mention, "Kyoto, has plunged to record low levels, leaving many of these places deserted." Many of these businesses will now struggle and possibly go under, which we have also seen happen here in the United States. The effects on tourism is everywhere in the world right now.

Another country almost completely dependent on tourism is Italy. Italy has a huge festival every year in Venice called Carnival. People from all over the world travel to attend this even, but in 2021 the events turn out was the lowest ever. The Local Italian news interviewed shop keepers and reported that, "The pandemic has pushed his revenues down 70 percent -- mainly due to the lack of foreign tourists." For now while countries are still locked down, unfortunately so many small business owners are taking the hit.
