Criteria for being Click-bait

Writer's picture: Savannah Campbell Savannah Campbell

Being click-bait is just another term for being fake news. To meet these terms, generally articles use a jarring picture, key words in the title, and in their blurbs they will put a shocking or out of place sentence to grab a readers attention. In the article "How to Spot Fake News" by Eugene Kiely and Lori Robertson, Kiely and Robertson state that "A lot of these viral claims aren’t “news” at all, but fiction, satire and efforts to fool readers into thinking they’re for real." Sites such as these exist solely for clicks, such as "The Onion" but not everyone bothers to check other news sources to see if what one says matches up with another.
