Published through NiemanLab, I read an article titled “The year to learn about news moments.” This article briefly discussed different methods people consume their news and the strategies that can be used to better target news towards people.
While reading this article, I found myself intrigued by how many strategies modern journalism requires today. Its job is not just what we say, but how we say it, when we say it, and why we are saying it.
This article provided a unique insight into how people consume their news. Different audiences use different platforms at varying times of the day.
“This post from Twitter guides us to think about how its audience uses the platform at different times: 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. is about staying informed, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. is a time for distractions, and 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. is a time for unwinding when people want ‘increasingly mindless or soothing content.’”
I find it interesting that we can use people’s habits to better deliver news. Paying attention to the audience’s patterns is a useful technique that can grow our delivery methods and have what we are saying be more effective.
