Diversity in News Outlets

For hundreds of years, the news and news press have been run by straight, white, men. With almost no diversity. Recently, that has changed, but not by much. Many news outlets are still the same as they were before. It’s not easy for this to change either since most news publishers will still target non-white and/or queer people. Aaron Foley states “One potential solution that could aid in the development of young, diverse talent, as well as expand an audience for general-market publications, is to explore synergies between community weeklies and metro dailies,” in his article “Diversity gains haven’t shown up in local news”. I think his solution is a great start to letting non-white and queer people be able to write news and even show their talents as journalists. Though this is small, it will be huge in the future, and extremely essential.
