Everyone Audiences

mmoore61

The audience is a key part of journalism, so being able to identify your audience is so important. Making content for “everyone” can’t work out in your favor—it simply doesn’t work that way. Cristina Kim thinks that when content is made with everyone being the targeted audience, “we’re just making it for white, cisgender, heterosexual audiences of a particular class and education, and centering their experience and perspectives.” While I don’t particularly agree exactly, I do think that everyone targets some particular audience when making general everyone-content. In doing this, the people you truly do want to hear your voice may not even get the chance to—this is why finding a particular audience to tailor your journalism to is so important. In doing so, we can get the messages we want to send to the proper audiences.
