In December 2018, Buzzfeed did an analysis of the 50 most popular fake news stories in 2018 that were presented on Facebook. One of the most outstanding articles from the fifty was the article, "Donald Trump to End School Shootings by Banning Schools."
One of the most credible aspects of this "fake" news was the use of fake quotes. The article included a false quote by the President, stated as, “If there are no schools, there will be no school shootings. Problem solved, thank me later.” The use of quotes was able to increase the credibility of the article because readers tend to believe quotes in articles without ever validating it.
