"Fake News". With all that goes on in our world, it is so easy to take a piece of information and twist it to make tons and tons of fake information. What exactly is "fake news" though? Well fake news is "those news stories that are false: the story itself is fabricated, with no verifiable facts, sources or quotes."
Who are these people making up information? Or why are these people doing this? Most of the time people who put out misleading information are one of many things... they are "someone wanting to make money, regardless of the content of the article, or satirists who want to either make a point or entertain you, or both, could be Poor or untrained journalists - the pressure of the 24 hour news cycle as well as the explosion of news sites may contribute to shoddy writing that doesn't follow professional journalistic standards or ethics , and or partisans who want to influence political beliefs and policy makers."
They make us believe this fake information by provoking "an emotional response and placed on certain sites ("seeded") in order to entice readers into sharing them widely. " They are persuasive to the point where we readers see this "juicy" information and take it with a grain of salt and run with it.
We must be more careful when reading this news. How would we do so though?
In three ways you can be more careful in spreading the wrong news. First read widely, then become more comfortable with ambiguity, and lastly if you haven't read a news article with a critical eye, don't reshare it.
