Fake News and Its Problem

Fake news is a huge problem. Fake news can be created anywhere, at anytime, by anyone. So if anyone can do it and we, as a society, know about fake news, why do we believe it? Well, sometimes fake news is very well written and can be very believable at the time it is published. People are not able to research the topic of the article that they are reading, or hearing, and don’t actually know the information behind it. One such case is in Papua New Guinea. “Many people are hesitant about inoculation due to false information being spread about the vaccines even as coronavirus cases are surging, according to the PNG’s Covid-19 response controller,” writes Saheli Roy Choudhury in her article “Fake news on social media is hampering vaccine efforts in Papua New Guinea”. Because of the misinformation and the fake news being spread, it is harder for health officials to convince people to get the vaccine. Fake news can be damaging to many people and damages the trust of news.
